CHOIR T-SHIRTS - The choir shirts arrived this week. I handed them out to students during class on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child brought their shirt home and put it some place safe. It is ok to let your child wear their shirt to school, etc. The shirts are not just for the concerts. FYI - there were some students who were not in class when I handed out the shirts. They will get their shirts the next time I see them in class.
CONCERT TIMES - As I indicated in my last newsletter concert times are going to be tweaked for our January and May concerts. All 5th graders will perform at 5:30 (originally it was 5:45). 6th graders will be divided into 2 groups. One group will perform at 6:30 and the second group will perform at 7:30. I have not yet divided the 6th graders into groups. They will be divided by class hour. I would like to wait until December to divide the students so I can make sure that I am creating as equal of groups as possible.
VETERAN'S DAY ASSEMBLY - 6th grade choir students had the incredible opportunity to learn a patriotic song (My Country 'tis of thee) and perform it with the band and orchestra for the 5th graders, faculty, and local veterans at our annual Veteran's Day Assembly. The students did a fantastic job. You can watch the video of the performance below in the "Oh the things we've learned" section of the newsletter.
REMIND - If you have not yet signed up for Remind, I highly encourage you to do so. Many of you have used this service in the past and Lineville and/or your elementary school. I will use this text message based system for quick reminders at concert time. To sign-up, follow the directions below. Make sure you sign-up for the correct grade level. If you have children in both 5th and 6th grade choir, you will want to sign-up for both groups.

5th GRADE : We have been working really hard on learning our choir music for our Winter Concert in January. All of the 5th grade classes have finished learning 'Stodola Pumpa' (Czech Folk Song). We are also getting close to finishing 'Better When I'm Dancin' and will be started our 3rd piece next week.
We have also been working on learning what steps in music look like. We have been working on mastering our Major Pentachord and have also started to practice the Minor Pentachord. We now know what all 7 steps in music sound like.
6th GRADE : We have spent the majority of our time learning 'My Country 'tis of thee' to perform at the Veteran's Day Assembly. (You can find a video of the performance below.) Even with an extra song to learn, the 6th graders have completed learning both of their first 2 songs. We are currently working on polishing, adding the accompaniment, and learning how to sing our part while another section sings a different part! We will also be starting our 3rd Winter Concert Piece next week.
We have been continuing to review what steps in music sound like and have moved on to reviewing our Major Scale.
